Recordings

Introduction
Studio Froombosch is a soundrecording studio. To make nice recordings, the musician must feel "at home" and the equipment and the acoustics has got to be of high professional quality.

Deal
Before recordings are started, it is very important that everyone involved in the project knows exactly what the intention of the recording is (artistic approach, kind of release). A time-schedule is prepared and if nesessary a rehearsal is planned to get knowledge about the style, equipment and sound of the group. After everyone agrees on the way recordings will be made, the recordings will start.

Residance
To create great recordings the musicians must feel at home in the studio. For this reason we build a waiting-room with TV and video and a kitchen inside the studio.  It is possible that the catering is arranged by Studio Froombosch. The coffee/tee is offcourse free of charges. Also the parking places are free, without any risks of getting parking tickets. In the area there is a very little risk of getting in a traffic-jam. Especially if you go to the studio by plane, using Groningen Airport, the studio is  international fast to access. We have our own garden, where it is a fine place to stay when the weather is right and the drinks are cool.

Acoustics
In the recordingroom it is possible to change the acoustics from dry to ambient. In the controlroom LEDE and Early-Scattering techniques are used to get a flat frequency responce. By using a relative long reverb decay time in the control room of  0.85s, the producer/technician will not get tired very fast, because the sound of the room is natural but very accurate.It is of great importance that the frequency responce of the natural reverb is very flat. To get a good acoustic decoupling between the control- en recording room,  the fundations and walls of these rooms are fully separated.

Gear
To make the recordings we use a NUENDO recording system. This modern approach has tremendous editing possibilities. We also have Neumann microphones a Telefunken preamplifier, Eventide and Lexicon effects. Synthesisers, drummachines and samplers can be recorded with a master keyboard and the sequencer in the computer. There are several instruments, drums, guitar amplifiers, bass amplifiers, percussion and synths available. We use modern and vintage gear. Some remarks: a very high quality monitoring systems ands its possible to record in surround sound.

People

The recording studio is owned by Harrie Munnik, who does the recordings. He has made a lot of recordings inside this studio and did a lot of work on the road with several bandsin the past 15 years. We have some musicians (drummer, guitarist, percussion player, keyboard-player, singer) available for sessionwork. 

Finishing recording
After the recording-sessions a rough mix is made. This mix can be used by the producer or band to evaluate the recorded material. After some time the definitive mix can be made.
